DJ Natarcia has been a stable factor in the clubbing scene in the Netherlands for many years, and many will know her from her work at Havana, Roxy Pussy Lounge, or her weekly nights at gay cruise and fetish club The Cuckoo’s Nest in Amsterdam. Based in Amsterdam but working at events all across the country, Natarcia is specialised in blackhouse, and is using tracks from disco, afro house, classic house, US garage, gospel house, latin house, and much more. This year, Natarcia is returning to Love Swim to ensure the event is accompanied by fantastic tunes the entire day. In an interview with Love Swim, Natarcia tells us more about how she experiences the event.

‘Love Swim is an awesome event. The name is really accurate, I do feel there is a vibe of love at this event. People are cheering one another, people are together, there is unity, and everybody is welcome. This is also what house music is about: everyone is welcome.’’

As the DJ at this event, Natarcia wants to send a universal message of acceptance to all: ‘There are so many people who are not accepted the way they are by the world, and as a result of that they may be hesitant to show their true selves. But self acceptance is important, because only with that, our families, neighbours, and colleagues can start accepting us the way we are. I hope to inspire people to be themselves, and to believe in themselves. Everybody fits into the rainbow flag, everyone is included. We are unified in our diversity.’

Through her own company, BLCKHS (pronounce Blackhouse), Natarcia is currently working with Curinesa, a foundation promoting social cohesion, and with Pakhuis de Zwijger, a progressive non-profit platform for dialogue, creation, and social innovation in Amsterdam, to jointly organise a World Pride event on August 8th: the Curinesa & BLCKHS Arts Event, Unity in Diversity. This free event will be full of music, dance, and visual arts; with a gospel choir, a ballet dance performance, live performances of visual artists, children’s activities, conversations about lgbtqia+ related topics, Surinamese food, and more.

Do join us at Love Swim on July 24th to listen and dance to DJ Natarcia’s tracks on the Amstel River. And for those staying around for the Amsterdam Canal Parade on August 1st, do look out for Natarcia’s very own boat and see if you can pick up some of her tunes: https://pride.amsterdam/en/boats/blckhs-amsterdam/
